There is simply no better way to build a sense of tempo than regular practice with a metronome. While it is still a good idea to purchase a metronome, if you have your chrome book near where you practice, you can have one for free.
If you have a microphone on your computer, here’s an online tuner. Don’t just use it at the beginning of your practice session, continually refer to it. This will help you grow more acquainted with the intonation tendencies of your instrument to help you play ALL the notes in tune, not just F and Bb.
SmartMusic is a computer based pratice tool Middle School students will become familiar with as we will be using it occasionally during class. It will play accompaniments for you as well as show you how you did. It will also provide accompaniments for many solos and ensembles as well as some of the concert band literature we’ll be playing in high school. Unlike the other resources on this page, SmartMusic is not free, but it is well worth the price of admission.
