Clark-Pleasant Middle School Band Information

The Clark-Pleasant Middle School band creates memories as a family. We are dedicated to our art as we work together to improve as musicians. We inspire, encourage, and care for others. We are hard working and goal focused. Each year is a blank canvas and we are the painters that make it beautiful.

We are LOUD and PROUD.

Safety Plan 2020-2021

Our students’ safety is the number one priority and we are working with our state level music education organizations and health officials to ensure that we are all protected in our classroom.

Social Distancing

  • Utilize the Orchestra Room for students who are not playing. No students will ever play wind instruments in the Orchestra Room. Students will be seated 4-6 ft. apart to do non-wind playing musical learning.
  • We will rotate students that are playing wind instruments in the band room. Students will be a minimum of 6 ft apart when playing.
  • We will have signs indicating the enter/exit flow in the band room, orchestra room, and instrument storage rooms.
  • When we do have “full band” rehearsal we will do so outside or in the gym so that we can place students a minimum of 6 ft apart.
  • Remove locks from band lockers and students in the same class will be used when sharing lockers for instrument storage.
    Sanitation/  Equipment
  • Brass students emptying their “water valve” will do so on a Pet Pad as seen in the “Performing Arts Aerosol Study.”
  • Students will wear a mask in all Band areas - when playing they will move the mask to their chin and replace it when resting or being given instruction as seen in the “Performing Arts Aerosol Study.”
  • We will have one person to a music stand per class period. Music stands and chairs will be sanitized after each class period.
  • Students will use bell coverings when playing clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, and tuba per the “Performing Arts Aerosol Study.”
  • No students will share wind equipment - every student will have their own instrument/mouthpiece/reeds. Itn addition, every percussionist will have their own mallet/stick bags.
  • All school owned instruments are being sent in for sanitation and repair prior to being assigned to students at the beginning of the year. We will begin playing in small groups after all equipment is sanitized and safe 2 weeks into the beginning of school.

Virtual Options
  • We will have an extra-curricular “Virtual Virtuoso” program for any interested students. In class/Virtual non-wind playing options are available to keep students in our band program at the safest level possible for them. We will welcome any of our virtual learners into this program as well. We want to keep our students playing and connected.

Beginning Band
  • We will use our beginning band class to place students on their instruments by first learning note reading, rhythms, and instrument exploration.
  • Students will be placed on instruments when we can safely begin playing together- this will continually be updated and monitored.
  • Beginning Band will not play on wind instruments the first 2-4 weeks of school.
Should my Child go back to band class?
We promise to provide safe and meaningful musical experiences for your student and are grateful to have them as part of our Clark-Pleasant Middle School Band Family. Please know we will continue to update our plan as research is made available and will work together to ensure music education stays an important part of your students curriculum.

Congratulations CPMS Band Students!

CPMS Band was one of 20+ schools in Indiana to receive the ISSMA "All Music" Award this year. This award was given to us based on the following: Gold Rating at ISSMA MS Concert Band Contest, Gold Rating Solo & Ensemble at the ISSMA Solo & Ensemble contest, and Gold Rating at the ISSMA Jazz Contest. We are very proud of all of our band students! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the program!

Welcome Back!

We hope that everyone had a fun a relaxing (and hopefully musical) break!
Students WILL NOT need their instruments the first day of school. Please make sure you have located all of your supplies for class (instrument, mouthpiece, foundations book, binder (with plastic sheets), valve oil, slide grease, reeds, etc. If you need to purchase any items, please contact Paiges Music.

Students will need instruments/supplies in class by Monday August 17th.
We will have an instrument drop off day for anyone who needs to utilize that for a drop off.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions! I look forward to a great year! kbriel@cpcsc.k12.in.us
